A piece of Americana! Made by Sport Fun Inc. An early wooden [plywood] skateboard with metal wheels that was there to witness the entire birth of the industry! Back when scooters, skating, and boarding where all developing and influcing one another… Its just skating then gliding [Skate' N Glide]… Skateboarding was initially marketed to surfers as a cheaper/easier way to practice surfing aka “sidewalk surfing”.. Imagine writing these gnarly, little, metal wheels, down a steep tarred hill in California! 23.25″ L x 5.75″ W. See finger point pics for any cosmetic blemishes. However, before skateboards there were scooters, sometimes known as kick scooters and push scooters. Varied forms of scooters have been traced back to the early 1900s, most of them made from wood, metal, or a combination of the two. Scooters had anywhere from two to four wheels. Rare: very early as a skateboard, this looks to be circa 1930s-40s (mainstream stuff didnt happen until the 60s). Beautiful Art Deco curves. 13″ L x 6″ W. Lots of fine, faint, cosmetic rust. Note the small dent on the top someone took an epic jump at somepoint and the wheel-bracket on bottom punched through the top! Looks like its intended to have both feet side by side and facing straight forward! A peice of skateboarding history worthy of some preservation and admiration. A peice of Americana!
