NOS 1978 G&S Fibreflex 28 Slalom Skateboard – Complete. Custom Chrome Gullwing H. IV Trucks and OJ Juice Wheels. TRUCKS : This setup was inspired by an ad I saw 30 years ago while flipping through vintage issues of Skateboarder (1978-ish). I think it was a Gullwing ad, but there’s a small chance it was a Fibreflex ad. The skateboard that was modeled in the ad was a white slalom G&S Fibreflex with chrome Gullwing HPG IV split axle trucks. Thinking back, it might have been the trucks were highly polished. Anyway, I thought they were chrome, and I wanted to recreate the board. So I sent a pair of NOS split axle trucks out to my chrome guy, and these shiny things are what I got back. DECK : The top and bottom of the Fibreflex deck are Bo-Tuff, with 2 wood plys in between. WHEELS : The OJ wheels are orange and have darkened a bit over the years. I built this board up for display and made some choices because of that. The green truck bushings have been replaced with black ones (to match the black bottom), and the bushing washers have been replaced with shinier versions. When I got the trucks back from chrome, I noticed the pivots on the hangers were skinnier than before, so the pivot bushings are not tight around the pivots. I was going to put in thicker pivot bushings, but I wasn’t going to ride it. And the board looked cool as is, so I never got around to replacing them. Company : G&S – Gordon and Smith. Model : Fibreflex 28 Slalom. Size : 28″ x 6-1/8″. Deck material : Bo-Tuff and maple. Color : White top and black bottom. Decal : Glossy G&S Shell on top and bottom (patinaed from age). Wheels : OJ’s – 60mm x 44mm, approximately. Trucks : Gullwing HPV IV Split Axle – Chromed. Extras : 1/4 red urethane risers, Bones REDS bearings, stainless steel hardware. Condition: This skateboard is meant for display. The deck, trucks, wheels, and riser pads are NOS, from the late 70′s. The hardware and bearings are newer. The trucks have been chromed, as noted above. The deck does not have any grip applied and shows some storage marks from being moved around for 40+ years. I used vinyl washers to protect the deck and the trucks from hardware marks. If I can find the source skateboard ad, I’ll include that also. This is pure skateboarding history.
