Authentic vintage Pro-Tec water sports helmet, model 1385, in bright yellow with original Pro-Tec decals and “Made in the USA” graphic sticker. This helmet features the iconic old school Pro-Tec shape and vent pattern popular during the 1980s. Originally designed for water sports use, this helmet is now a great collectible piece for vintage action sports enthusiasts, skateboard/BMX collectors, or retro display purposes. Vintage Pro-Tec model 1385. Original water sports model. Adjustable chin strap and buckle. Interior foam and padding intact. Condition: Pre-owned vintage condition with heavy cosmetic wear from age and use including scratches, scuffs, discoloration, and paint loss. Interior foam and padding show age-related wear as well. White Flyaway Vtg Helmet Skateboarding Bmx has blue tape pieces to give it color but underneath it is all white. Also has reflective stripe. No cracks no accidents.
The Flyaway helmet was jointly developed by Tuzo Jerger at Kanoa, and legendary Z-boy Jay Adams although Tuzo probably just showed Jay a bunch of prototypes and Jay just said, that one. They came in plain, solid-color painted fiberglass, or, for an extra charge, you could get the hand painted airbrushed stripes like you see on the helmet above. Originally they came in blue and a red-orange color, but soon black appeared, and Tom Sims requested that a an airbrushed white version be made for their team riders. The helmet shells and straps were made in California, and final assembly was done in Baja California. This one is a size small. It still has all the original Sims stickers, including the custom red snakes that were used only on these helmets. Straps, buckles, and foam are all original. If you want to replace the foam, Marshall Wolf at Flyaway Helmets in Marina del Rey, California (maker of reproduction Flyaways), can sell you a replacement foam set.
