These came straight out of the counter files at Dave’s Bike Shop in La Mesa, CA, where they sat filed away for decades. Before starting Independent Trucks and Thrasher Magazine, Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson made the over-engineered, aircraft-grade Stroker truck in San Francisco. This set includes the Dec 1, 1976 introductory newsletter (with Fausto’s printed plate signature), the multi-page mechanical tuning guide for setting toe-in and camber, and the huge, separate yellow master blueprint schematic sheet showing the full steering assembly. The Smoothill Skateboards Red Dealer Flyer: A bright red wholesale price sheet out of Fairfax, CA, featuring a great retro cartoon business card graphic on the front. It lists dealer costs for legendary 1970s decks like the Sims Wood (27″, 30″, and 44 models), Bahne, Weber Camber Flex, Bengel SS, and Chad Baker. The California SkateBrake Order Flyer: Another rare Smoothill handout featuring retro typography and an ordering grid for the classic rear friction brake pads (Right Foot and Goofy Foot options). The KIP “Freestyle Paws” Glove Flyer: Original promotional sheet for early cowhide freestyle leather skate gloves, complete with the dealer stamp on the bottom. The Hobie Skateboards Price List & Safety Guide Pair: Straight out of Dana Point and Costa Mesa. Includes the blue wholesale sheet pricing out classic Road Rider 2, 4, and 6 wheels, Hobie jerseys, and safety gear. It comes with the matching yellow “Safe Skateboarding” handbook written by Bob Skoldberg. Condition: These are 100% original 1970s printings, not modern copies. For being 50 years old, they are in fantastic shape-NOT Mint condition but very nice considering age!! They are flat, crisp, and clean. No nasty garage grease stains, heavy tears, or water damage.

Original vintage 1970s photograph taken at the legendary Cherry Hill Skatepark, one of the earliest purpose-built skateparks in the United States and an important hub for East Coast skateboarding during the 1970s. Ray “Bones” Rodriguez is a legendary professional skateboarder, inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame and Museum in 2019. Known as the first member of the original Powell-Peralta Skateboarding Hall of Fame and Museum Bones Brigade in 1978, he pioneered tricks like the aerial tail tap and was a standout pool skater in the late 70s/early. The photo shows two skateboarders standing at the lip of the bowl inside the park. One skater is balanced on his skateboard at the edge of the bowl while another skater stands nearby. Ray “Bones” Rodriguez standing above the bowl. The second skater standing nearby may possibly be Billy Ruff based on facial resemblance, though this identification is not confirmed and is offered only as a possibility for collectors and researchers. Used condition with signs of wear. The label is worn off. Has scratches, dents, abrasions, etc. Has some damage to the edges, nose and tail, etc. Note that it has wear to the wheels, especially one of the wheels – you can see see this in picture # 12. This is a well used and well loved Gordon Smith G&S yellow/blue skateboard deck from the 1970s that was upgraded with 1970s Gull Wing H. P. G. IV Trucks and 60mm Blue 1st gen Kryptonics wheels. The grip tape is peeling back. There are dings and scratches all over from use. On the bottom there is a ton of skating stickers mostly from the 90s it looks like. The trucks are nice but also scratched up from grinding and such. If the intention is to ride it, I would recommend new grip take and definitely new bushings. The wheels are in decent shape considering the age. I took it for a spin today and it still rides nice!
